What do you do when space is limited?
When oil and gas and mining companies came to L&M Radiator with this dilemma, the company’s engineers refused to shrink from the challenge. Leveraging decades of engineering experience, they designed the groundbreaking Mesabi Cube Cooling System. The Cube Cooling System uses 20% less space (compared to typical horizontal coolers) while meeting expectations for performance demanded of much larger systems.
The Mesabi Cube Cooling System features multiple tube types, arranged in the most efficient configuration to meet the customer’s needs. Whether that is a side-by-side or a front-to-back configuration, the design is optimized for efficiency, lowest power consumption and ease of cleaning.
Maximizing surface area cooling, the Mesabi Cube Cooling System minimizes the footprint area for the cooling surface area — fitting the right combination of radiators, charge air coolers, power-end lube coolers, hydraulic oil coolers and fuel coolers for maximum cooling capabilities into minimum space.
Typically used in fracking and surface pumps to cool Caterpillarâ 3512 Tier 4F engines, Cummins QSK 50 Tier 4F engines, Cummins QSK60 Tier 4F engines, or MTU 16V4000 engines, Mesabi Cube Cooling Systems combat thermal and mechanical shock and fatigue with L&M rubber seal ingenuity. Mesabi heat exchangers combat thermal and mechanical stress and fatigue with L&M’s innovative approach to rubber seals. Mesabi rubber seals eliminate thermal stress as well as the leaks that lead to system failure and expensive downtime. Proven time and time again to withstand whatever comes their way, these seals are rated for temperatures at -40ºF and are backed by L&M’s industry- best warranty.
In conventional cooling systems, thermal fatigue and mechanical stress can lead to leaks, which in turn can cause expensive downtime. When hot fluid reaches the core, the core expands, but the framework around it does not. When the system cools down, it is just the opposite. The core shrinks, and by that point, the framework has warmed up and still wants to be in expanded mode. This expansion-contraction cycle causes stresses at the header/tube connection in a conventional cooler, but not for Mesabi cores. The tube and seal design ensures the core is completely isolated from the frame.
L&M’s exclusive design ensures that Mesabi Cube Cooling Systems can be quickly and simply returned to service if damaged or in need of regular maintenance. Held in headers with flexible, fluorocarbon rubber seals, individual tubes are replaceable in the field and the units can be returned to 100 percent cooling performance. Customers can replace tubes and seals on the spot. No hassle. Mesabi cores are easily cleaned externally with high-pressure air or water.
L&M Radiator provides incomparable service to users and OEMs because all service is handled at the manufacturer level. In emergencies, L&M can ship most parts within 48 hours. Onsite technical and engineering assistance is available nearly anywhere in the world with a few days’ notice thanks to manufacturing facilities and parts depots in the United States, Mexico, Chile, and Australia.
